What to expect in the Therapy Room

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it is normal to feel unsure about what to expect. My aim is to offer a calm, safe and confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is on your mind.

In our sessions you will have the opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready. My role is to listen carefully, support you and help you reflect on what you are going through.

Some people come to therapy with a clear idea of what they want to talk about, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel right. Both are completely okay. Together we can gently explore your experiences and begin to make sense of them.

At times I may share ideas, models or perspectives that can help you understand your feelings and patterns more clearly. The sessions are collaborative, meaning we work together in a way that feels supportive and helpful for you.

Therapy is not about being judged or told what to do. It is about creating a space where you can feel heard, understood and supported as you find your own way forward.

How much does each session cost?

Each session is 50 minutes long and can take place online or in person in Burford. I charge £60 per session. Before the first session, I will share my address and bank details with you. In the first full session, you and I will review a contract together. You will then have the opportunity to talk about how you have come to counselling and start setting your goals for the sessions.

How many sessions do I need?

This question is difficult, but I offer short-term and long-term counselling. The number of sessions needed will be discussed in the first session and reviewed as the sessions progress.

How do I pay?

At the moment, I only have facilities for BAC transfers or cash. Please let me know if this will be difficult for you, and we can investigate other payment methods. I will share my bank details after the initial consultation.

What is expected of me during counselling?

These sessions are for you and your time to share your thoughts and feelings. The safe space I can create will empower you to question and discover new things about yourself.

What happens if I cannot make a session?

Life happens, and sometimes, you won't be able to make a session. If you can let me know more than 48 hours before the session, we can reschedule with no charge. Less than 24 hours' notice will result in a charge for the session.

How can therapy help

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be experiencing anxiety, sadness, grief, or a sense that something in your life is not quite right. At other times you may simply feel stuck or unsure about the next step forward. Therapy offers a space where you can begin to explore these feelings in a supportive and confidential environment.

Talking with someone who is trained to listen without judgement can help you make sense of your thoughts, emotions and experiences. Often, putting feelings into words can bring clarity and help you understand yourself more deeply.

Through therapy you may begin to notice patterns in how you think, feel and respond to situations. Together we can explore these patterns and consider new ways of understanding and responding to the challenges you are facing.

Therapy can help you to:

  • Understand difficult emotions such as anxiety, sadness or anger
  • Process grief and loss
  • Build confidence and self-understanding
  • Improve relationships and communication
  • Manage stress and life changes
  • Feel more in control of your thoughts and feelings

Therapy does not offer quick fixes, but it can provide meaningful support and insight. Many people find that having a space where they feel heard and understood allows them to move forward with greater clarity, resilience and self-compassion.

Take the First Step Today.

If you feel it may be the right time to explore your thoughts and feelings, I offer a free initial consultation via Zoom or telephone. This is a gentle space to ask questions, understand how therapy works, and see if we’re a good fit.
